OHMSETT is the official test facility of the Wendy Schmidt Oil Spill Cleanup X CHALLENGE.May 23-26 was an exciting few days for our X PRIZE team. The Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE staff attended and exhibited at the 2011 International Oil Spill Conference (IOSC) at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR. The theme of this year?s conference was ?promoting the science of spill response,? and 2,500 individuals from more than 50 countries attended the conference. The conference was really fun; it was exciting to see the different technologies that exist for oil cleanup! It was awesome walking around the conference hall and seeing huge boats and tractor-like machines that clean up oil. But, the best part of the week was hosting a Team Summit, and announcing the 10 Finalist Teams who will be competing in the competition. The teams were able to meet each other for the first time, and ask really specific and detailed questions about the competition. After two days of in-depth presentations and conversations about the testing parameters, facility requirements, conditions and expectations for the Competition, they emerged with a deeper understanding of what lies ahead and prepare to take on one of the largest endeavors of their careers. They loved it, and we are so happy to finally be able to openly share details about their ideas! Overall it was a great week! Alex at X PRIZE
