Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE Attends Clean Gulf Conference
By on December 06, 2011
As the year comes to a close, so does the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE schedule of activities.
We recently had the good fortune to attend the Clean Gulf Conference in San Antonio, TX, where we were pleased to find that interest remains high in the Competition and its participants.
While attending Clean Gulf, X PRIZE was joined on the exhibit floor by our $1 Million the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE winner Elastec/American Marine (complete with the ?big check?) as well as fellow competitors LAMOR, Voraxial, CRUCIAL, and visiting competitors Koseq.
The exhibit floor was abuzz with the rumor that Ohmsett representatives would be presenting the results of the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE during a session on Emerging Technologies for Spill Response. Indeed the rumors were true and after a theatrical presentation by Ohmsett Mechanical Engineer, Paul Meyer (the presentation slide show failed slightly just prior to announcing the winner creating a slight dramatic pause during technical difficulties ? appreciated by the crowd as a staged effect), the X PRIZE Foundation was once again receiving inquiries by attendees to consider hosting a subsequent competition with alternative oil cleanup solutions or potentially a competition with more extreme levels of cleanup efficiencies.
It seems as if we at the X PRIZE Foundation and more importantly our competing teams, have made accelerated strides within the industry and for this we are grateful. The outcome of an X PRIZE or an X CHALLENGE is to find new and innovative ways to impact industries in which we as a society have both an obligation and desire to advance. Our wish is for each team who participates in a competition to continue to grow and emerge with groundbreaking ideas that will change the world.
Thank you to all those who visited us at Clean Gulf. May the coming year be prosperous for you all.
